Opera by Robert Wilson and Lou Reed, based on the works of Edgar Allen Poe
Premiered on February 13, 2000 at the Thalia Theater, Hamburg, Germany
Performed in German.
Lou Reed and stage director Robert Wilson teamed up to create POEtry, a musical journey through the works of author Edgar Allen Poe. Reed wrote 13 songs - as well as an overture and libretto - incorporating such famous Poe texts as 'The Raven' and 'The Fall of the House of Usher,'. POEtry marked the second of three collaborations between Reed and Wilson, who also created Time Rocker (Hamburg, 1996) and, later, Lulu (Berlin, 2011). As was done for the other two shows, Reed made an album of the play's material with producer Hal Willner, entitled 'The Raven' (2003). On stage, the music was performed by the Time Rocker Band.
