[L'Incoronazione di Poppea]
By Claudio Monteverdi
Libretto by Giovanni Francisco Busenello
Poppea’s beauty bewitches Nero and provokes the death of Seneca, the banishment of Othon and the repudiation of Octavia; an opera about desire and seduction. After his successful productions of L'Orfeo (2009) and Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria (2011) in Milan and Paris, Robert Wilson concludes his epic Monteverdi Cycle with The Coronation of Poppea–first to open at the Opéra Garnier in Paris and then at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
